What does it mean when blood is black?

The color of blood is related to the amount of oxygen bound to the red blood cells. Blood that you normally see after a cut is venous blood which has the lowest oxygen levels in the blood vessels. Occasionally in certain light, or if the oxygen level is very low, the blood can appear almost black.

What does it mean when you have dark red blood?

Human blood is red in color, ranging from bright red when oxygenated to a very dark, almost blackish-red when deoxygenated. It owes its color to haemoglobin, to which oxygen binds. Deoxygenated blood is darker due to the difference in color between deoxyhaemoglobin and oxyhaemoglobin.

What does your period blood color mean?

Cranberry or bright red period blood means the blood is new and typically indicates that you are having a healthy period. You will usually see this color during the middle of your period or when your flow is heavy, although some women see this color during their entire cycle.
